These are great thoughts and opinions that can help others evaluate HubSpot in an unbiased way. In my opinion, I think HubSpot's great and I like a lot of the ways that they market themselves.

My company also provides an inbound marketing software tool for small businesses that is an alternative to HubSpot. Our tool is called Spectate. Spectate integrates with WordPress, but allows you to use any CMS. We also offer free trials, we don't charge implementation fees, and there are no annual contracts (we charge month-to-month) - Spectate.com.

Re: Social Media in Manufacturing

excellent article

Re: 12for12k Global Event #GG24

Although the Chicago Blizzard of 2011 was the current event bantered back and forth, it was the global events that brought up deep concern. ...

Re: Are trade shows still relevent?

I have noticed companies attending less trade shows, and the shows they do attend their booth size has decrease in size.

Re: HootSuite – in-browser Twitter client

TweetDeck dont seem to let me see many DMs!

http://www.youtube.com/liam...

Re: Balanced Marketing – HubSpot

I have enjoyed using the Hubspot free tools and was ready to sign up for the program but the company either makes you pay to convert all your pages to their CMS at $10 per page or you have to sign up for a one year contract. Either way you are forced to pay $500 up front and $250 every month thereafter.

For me the commitment is all one-sided as I have to take their word on the consulting and the program but they have me locked in to a contract. If the software was all that great then why do they need to tie you into a long term contract?

I was excited to get the program started but for me those were red flags and I am forced to look into other alternatives. It seems to me that Hubspot is more concerned with protecting its retention ratio of 98% (which seems like a false statistic to me now) than actually working with small businesses to provide a reasonable solution knowing they will have to keep earning the business month after month.

It is a matter of time before their current business model no longer works.

Re: Blog of the Week – Planet Neil

While I've spent a lot of time on Neil's site, and referred to it often, I don't think his approach is not unique or original. David Ziser has also recommended bouncing on-camera light to provide off-camera lighting. He calls it "The Photon Ricochet." I'm a social media marketer, and I've just taken over the task of redoing my father's company's website (among other things, as I nestle into my new role), and I'm definitely going to inject some social media aspects into it.

However, I've never worked with a company like this on social media.... it's a copper wire manufacturing plant, in an industry where no one has even thought about things like SEO, let alone blogging.

I'm trying a lot of things out, focusing on driving good traffic and inbound marketing opportunities, increasing the places we're present online, developing, as you mentioned, relevant information for our customers and answering industry questions we see.

Honestly, a lot of it right now is SEO/getting found and customer relations driven.

We'll see how things fall, but I look forward to following you.

Cheers,
Kate

Re: Why Support Eye Care for Kids?

children is foundation of a country. every child musat get eye care. thanks for sharing

Re: 12for12k – Eye Care for Kids

thanks for sharing. that's great article

Re: Are trade shows still relevent?

There just something to be said about the face to face interaction you get at a trade show. As a musician, & someone interested in staying informed, &/or becoming familiar with new technology like google wave, Jon's latest was a tweet worth following, & similarily, Musicians on call is a cause worth supporting.

And the Google invite was an enticing bonus, so I just donated $35 to the cause, under the name listed in the fields below. I hope I got my comment in on time for an invite!

Re: HootSuite – in-browser Twitter client

I didn't use this tool before, thank you.

Re: I Love Barbara Talisman!

I feel it's my job to help keep you grounded with a bit of piss taking from time to time. :-)

Re: I Love Barbara Talisman!

Remind me to holler and ask how chipper you are if you have tooth issues, mate ;-)

I dunno - taking the piss out of me and you still make me chuckle. :)

Re: I Love Barbara Talisman!

Grateful! You know though, although she might not have intended to, I really believe Barbara helped us out.

She brought the 12for12k community closer together, a good thing when we are embarking on this #GG24 adventure.

She allowed a lot of our supporters to highlight all that is good about what we are trying to do here.

Because of her, 12for12k had a really high profile on Twitter and the blogs today. I bet a lot of people learned of us for the first time and I hope some will stick around and become active supporters.

There is a chance that Barbara might end up taking a constructive approach to 12for12k and it looks as though she has the background to really help us. It shows what a guy Danny is because I think he would be happy for this to happen (even if he was was a miserable git today, using his tooth as some kind of excuse!)

Never a dull moment eh?

Cheers!
David

Re: I Love Barbara Talisman!

David:

If I had half of your wit... well we'd both be halfwits.

Great post, excepting one tiny little omission: You! And yes, I too think there was some self serving on her part.. and yes, to see so many rise to the defence is awesome.

Re: I Love Barbara Talisman!

Thanks Danny; I thought you handled this whole (rather odd) situation very well. What makes it even more strange is that any ideas she has that would make 12for12k more effective would have been welcomed.

In any case, I didn't have much time to contribute much because I was on the road most of the day, but the 12for12k stream was a happening place today!

Thanks Barbara!!

Re: I Love Barbara Talisman!

I'll go with Rich, fella.
